Marine Biologist. Growing up by the sea awakened her passion for the ocean and drove her to study biology. Her field of research is the Systematic Taxonomy, Biogeography and econology of soft corals and black corals. She has described 31 species new to science.

In 2014 she was awarded the Outstanding Scientist of the Year 2014 of Costa Rica.
