Bibian Mentel successfully campaigned to have para-snowboarding included in the Winter Paralympic Games. She was the first female gold medalist at the sport’s debut in Sochi in 2014 - just a few months after her lower leg amputation. Overall, she became a three-time Paralympic gold medalist snowboarding champion, and seven-time world champion.With her ‘Mentelity’ Foundation Bibian inspired many young people with a physical disability or mental health challenges to engage in sports. Bibian passed away in March 2021, aged 48, after battling cancer for 20 years.
