My job as Chief Scientific Advisor spans disease, climate, food.

I was often the only female in university maths classes. It wasn’t uncommon to hear, “Can girls do maths?” which drove me to prove them wrong.

The situation’s improving but there are barriers. Juggling work with family means we lose talented women.

My advice to women in science is GO FOR IT. You’re needed.
