Margit Slachta (1884–1974) was a groundbreaking political leader and the first female Member of the Hungarian Parliament, elected in Budapest in 1920. As the founder of the Sisters of Social Service (1923), she pioneered modern social work, women’s protection and empowerment. She is a vital figure for society as she consistently defended human rights, organized rescue missions during WWII, and was the sole MP openly opposing totalitarian crackdowns.
