Fabiola Gianotti is the Director-General of CERN, the European Organization for Nuclear Research, in Geneva, Switzerland, and the first woman to take up this role. She has a PhD in experimental particle physics and was the head of the ATLAS experiment at the time of the discovery of the Higgs boson.
