Tarja Halonen is the 11th President of the Republic of Finland and Finland's first female head of state. She acceded office 2000, and was re-elected 2006. Tarja Halonen has held several international positions of trust during her career. Since March 2009, she has served as the Chair of the Council of Women World Leaders. In August 2010, Tarja Halonen was appointed co-chair of the UN Secretary-General’s High-level Panel on Global Sustainability.
