European Union, 2025
Ursula von der Leyen
Ursula von der Leyen has been serving as President of the European Commission since 2019 - the first woman to hold this office. She has led the European Union through major challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic, climate policy reforms, and support for Ukraine following Russia’s illegal war of aggression. She was re-appointed by EU national leaders and re-elected by the European Parliament for a second five-year term, running until 2029.
